One Band To Rule Them All

I had a request to incorporate Star Wars, Firefly, and Star Trek into a band. The customer wanted one leather band to rule them all. I wanted it several layers and had an overwhelming urge to incorporate metal as well. After being given artistic freedom to design it the way I envisioned it, this was the end product. Being a sci-fi fan myslef let me just say.....I had a freakin blast making this puppy!

Mystery Braid Bands

This is something that I haven't posted about on this blog yet. I really enjoy all things Celtic, Irish, Scottish and such and you will see that reflected in much of my work. Braids are something I definitely find beauty in. I'm really happy about the way these have turned out!

First, the simple mystery braid. I can do them with a plain or specialty snap and in several different colors.

 

Last, the concho braid. I really had fun with these. It was the first time I used conchos. These can also be made with either a plain or specialty snap.

Mom, Music & James Bands

This past Sunday I loaded up the wife and kids to go watch my mom, Debra James perform an acoustic set with Guthrie Kennard at Fred's in the 7th Street District of Fort Worth, Texas.  About a month ago my mom said she wanted a leather band that involved a Celtic design and a cross. I made her the cuff she is wearing in the pictures and videos.  This is probably my most intricate piece of work to date.  I'm diggin how well you can see some of the detail from over 20 feet away. 

Make sure and check out the videos.  My mom is a talented singer and songwriter, and Guthrie ain't too bad himself. Wish the sound quality was a bit better, but it is what it is.....an outdoor bar patio, not a studio. Ha!

Here's a little factoid about me and Guthrie. I learned every Tommy Shannon (Stevie Ray Vaughan's bass player) note I could while learning to play.  Once me and my brother Casey James started playing in blues bars, we ran into Guthrie who also saw Shannon as a bass genius. We both had the same hero, so naturally our playing styles were quite similar.  The only difference was that Guthrie had 20 years more experience.  He was kind enough to show me a lot.  There was zero chance of me seeing Tommy play 2-3 times a week so I watched Guthrie and learned a boatload more than just listening to a record.

Cross Cuffs

Here are several of the custom cross cuffs that I offer. Each one is designed, cut, and sewn 100% by me. I also help customers bring their design ideas to fruition for an additional fee.  Everything I make depends on what color leather I have available.  All leathers are inspected in person to ensure it's quality, and not purchased in bulk so that my pieces look as individual as possible.

The black cuff with the stitch detail is different on each one that I do. There is no preset design.

 

 

 

This cross cuff is definitely my favorite piece. The design and detail are beautiful and it takes almost an entire day to make just one. This particular cuff is $275.

 

I have a limited amount of cracked leather for these cuffs. Can only make about 4, maybe 5 more.

This entire business all began as a result of boredom while working the night shift as a nurse and having squat to do on my days off. I made things for me, then my brother, and then close musician friends.
